Finally...we got the chance to watch the theater!

Finally, with a joyful spirit, we reached KLPAC! After the experience of a "tragedy" of being lost in the way to KLPAC last two weeks, yesterday Amelia, Elizabeth and I went to the theater again. This time, we have asked so many people about the direction to the place and we even "hired" a driver to accompany us to the theater. I would like to thank my friend, Patrick, who also enjoyed the drama very much, for sending us to the theater.

This is the first time for four of us to watch a drama. The moment we entered the theater, the first thing that startled me is the setting of the stage. It was almost like the Greek Theater! Although it was a small theater which can only fit around 100 audiences but it really resembles the theaters of ancient Greek. The audiences surrounded three sides of the circular playing area. When we were watching the play, I realized that this kind of stage setting is very effective in the sense that the audience can hear the actors' voice very clear as if they are talking next to you. I really can feel the emotions and the atmosphere of the play.
The drama we watched was 4.48 Psychosis. According to the studies of psychology, 4.48am is the time when most of the people having their will in the most weak condition. And, surveys also found out that many people committed suicide at 4.48am. This drama is about a woman who is struggling in depression with thoughts of confusion and insecurity. This is the last play written by a famous playwright Sarah Kane.
There were only three actors in this play and they had performed their characters very well. Their facial expression, gestures, actions, and voice projection have impressed me a lot. I even could feel the tense situation in the play when the woman was struggling and reasoning whether to kill herself. I think this was the experience of "catharsis".
The other element that impressed me was the lighting technique. They can control the light very accurately and it was the lighting that contributed a lot in creating a mysterious atmosphere of the drama.
This was really a very nice experience for me. Sure we have taken a lot of photos at the place. We even met the director of the drama, Gavin Yap, and managed to take a photo with him!
After this wonderful experience, I have a better understanding about what had been taught by Dr. Edwin concerning the theater. I think I am falling in love with drama now!

Yes!! Finally we get the chance to watch the theater at KLPac. It was really an enjoyable experience to watch the theater. Psychosis 4.48 was a great drama as all of us can really feel the tense in the drama. I guess so that's what catharsis is. The setting was impressive as it resembles the greek theater. I was really impressed with the lighting and voice projection of the drama and not forgeeting the great performances by the actors...! They are amazing! They are really very into their actings that makes the drama looks very very real. I love everything about the drama!

Firstly, I would like to thank Patrick, who drove us safely to KLPAC which gave me a great sense of peace and eroded the fear of getting lost again to our destination. I also enjoyed watching the play "4.48 Psychosis" with the company of three great friends, Amelia, Soon Mun and Patrick. Their company made my first historical viewing of a play more meaningful and memorable.

Thank God, Soon Mun finally you reach KL Pac safe and sound. Actually, my friends and I too found it hard to find the place. But we made it!!!

I agree that this play taught us a lot and gave all of us a new perspective of modern play. Your comment gave me a new knowledge especially when you said that in psychology, 4.48am is when many people commit suicide. Wow... I was not aware of this matter at all. It's a new info for me.....

The voice, gestures and actions definitely impressed me too. Soon Mun... I agree when you said that you're falling in love with drama because I'm too in love with it!!!

Yes, it was also my first time of to watch a play. Undeniably, I was so excited and very pleased to see to many people coming as on the day I went, it was the final performance. Maybe Soon Mun startled to see the setting of the stage in awe, but it was the other way around for me; I startled as the stage is less better than my expectations. But, the arrangement of the props is fine as we can see that the movement of the players from a place to another and and used the props fully. They use all the props very well in conveying the message. I strongly agree with Soon Mun that this is a very well performance the fact that the players’ facial expression, gestures, actions, and voice projection are outstanding and effective towards the audiences who can feel the intensity of the play. Their voice projection was superb! It was very clear. Soon Mun does experience the element of carthasis which goes the same to me. But, I might not think the same in term of the lighting. The lighting was not that good for me as it is too dark when all the lights turns off, I got this mild headache. But, it is effectively done when the element of aside being acted out. One light is randomly focused on an audience whom the actor will talk to and another light will focus on the actor. It so great to see two people under two spots of light as if only both of them were at the place. Indeed it was a wonderful experience which I will look upon to feel it again.

I found that most of my friends have never watch dramas before, and so do I. Everybody has their own expectations on how a drama is presented. I have the same idea with Soon Mun, where the setting of the stage really puzzled me. It was not as what I expected.
Thanks to Soon Mun for mentioning in her blog about the meaning of the time 4:48 in the title of the theatre. As stated by Soon Mun, “According to the studies of psychology, 4.48am is the time when most of the people having their will in the most weak condition. And, surveys also found out that many people committed suicide at 4.48am”. Before this, I thought that was the time all the characters died.
